How do you represent a city without falling into cliché?

Naples is usually reduced to the sea, Vesuvius and pizza, or, digging a little deeper, to Pulcinella and San Gennaro. I went for a street instead. Spaccanapoli splits the city in half and is as old as the city itself, laid out as the Roman Decumanus Inferiore, known everywhere by its nickname although its real name is Via Benedetto Croce.

It is almost always drawn vertically. On this shirt it runs diagonally, seen from another angle, with its buildings and monuments illustrated the whole way along.
